Controversial influencer Andrew Tate is going to step back into the ring after a five-year hiatus. According to reports from Ariel Helwani’s Uncrowned, the British-American personality is in final negotiations for his first bout under the Misfits Boxing banner.
The announcement could come as early as this weekend during Saturday night’s event headlined by Darren Till versus Luke Rockhold. Sources suggest the heavyweight contest could take place in either Dubai or the United States, marking a significant return.
Tate’s journey back to combat sports has been anything but straightforward. After being permitted to leave Romania in February, he has maintained a rigorous training regimen, first appearing at a UFC event in Las Vegas before establishing what amounts to a training camp in Dubai. This preparation appears to be paying dividends as negotiations near completion.
Before achieving international notoriety through his divisive social media presence, Tate established himself as a formidable competitor in kickboxing. The elder Tate brother claimed four titles across ISKA and Enfusion promotions, while his younger sibling Tristan earned European championship honors. However, Andrew’s competitive career was cut short by persistent eye issues and a first-round injury withdrawal in his final Enfusion appearance.
This potential return has been years in the making, with several high-profile opportunities falling through. Just before his December 2022 arrest, Tate was reportedly in discussions to participate in Floyd Mayweather’s exhibition boxing world tour. When those talks collapsed, Aaron Chalmers ultimately filled that role.
More recently, a substantial $22 million offer emerged for Tate to face Russian social media personality Tamaaev, an influencer perhaps best known for introducing global audiences to viral sensations Hasbulla and Abdu Rozik. The proposed bout would have taken place under boxing rules in either Dubai or Moscow, with Tate’s business partner Tam Khan receiving the formal proposal.
The timing of this potential announcement aligns with Tate’s current legal flexibility, having been granted permission to travel internationally while his case remains pending.
