In a revealing new interview, Russian MMA legend Alex Emelianenko opened up about his strained relationship with his famous brother Fedor, widely considered one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.
The siblings, who were once incredibly close growing up, have grown apart significantly in recent years due to their vastly different lifestyles and circles of influence according to Alex.
“We have different upbringings. We have different views on life. We have everything different. What unites us? We have different jobs,” Alex stated bluntly when asked about the current status of his relationship with Fedor.
He went on to dismiss any notion that he needed to or felt compelled to congratulate Fedor on recently becoming a grandfather, stating “If a person would like my congratulations, my communication, my attention, he would have already been a long time ago.”
The frank comments shed light on just how fractured the once tight-knit bond between the two brothers has become over time. Alex made it clear he has no expectations of reconciling with Fedor anytime soon, taking a pragmatic stance of going their separate ways for now.

In addition to addressing his family dynamics, Alex also cleared the air around speculation that he had converted to Islam after he was photographed visiting sacred Islamic sites in Mecca and Medina a few years ago.
“I wasn’t in Mecca itself. I was a tourist on TV. I was on the territory where it was allowed. I wasn’t close to being a tourist,” he clarified. “I’m not a Muslim.”
The former Pride FC star chalked up the rumors to people making assumptions based on his appearance at the time, which included growing out his beard.
However, he asserted that his grooming choices were merely for personal preferences around hygiene and style, not motivated by any religious beliefs or conversions.
With his relationships and his own spiritual identity addressed, Alex Emelianenko seems focused firmly on the future as he continues mapping out the remainder of his unique, and at times controversial, fighting career.
