(Video) Nasty leg break steals the show at Coalition Muay Thai

Ronaldo Quan suffered a devastating leg break during the Wild Card belt contest at Coalition Muay Thai on April 19th in San Antonio, abruptly ending his match against Prince Toro Nègro Conerly.

The moment, captured on a livestream by a member of Quan’s corner, shows the martial artist executing a kick before his leg snapped audibly, prompting immediate reactions from onlookers.

“Oh, broke his leg! Oh my god!” exclaimed one witness in the video. “I’ve never seen that in person.”

Another observer noted, “That’s the second time I’ve seen that now.”

Despite the nature of the injury, Quan displayed remarkable composure as medical staff tended to him. According to reports, he maintained his spirits and was even laughing while being stretchered out of the venue.

From the ambulance, Quan confirmed the severity of his injury and later shared X-ray images revealing fractures in both bones of his lower leg. He took to social media to thank supporters while preparing for surgery.

“Thank you to everyone that has reached out & sent their support. I’ll be having surgery early tomorrow morning and will be here in the hospital for a few days. I will respond to messages when I can, but am taking time to rest. Appreciate you all,” Quan posted.

This setback follows Quan’s professional debut last year under DFA, where he reflected philosophically on his March 2023 loss: “Unfortunately lost my debut by decision, but I wouldn’t change the outcome as I learned a lot from this experience. Big reality check for my clinch and specially my cardio!”

Prince Toro Nègro Conerly was declared the winner of the contest by default, though the victory was overshadowed by concern for his opponent’s wellbeing.

The injury, while uncommon, has occurred in combat sports before, with similar incidents gaining notoriety for their nature. Medical professionals at the event responded swiftly, ensuring Quan received immediate attention before hospital transfer.

Coalition Muay Thai officials have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.

Quan now faces a lengthy rehabilitation period before any potential return to competition.
