In a heartbreaking tragedy that has shaken the UFC community, mixed martial artist Marvin Vettori is mourning the loss of his younger brother Patrick, who died at age 30 in a house fire in Mezzocorona, Italy.
The fire broke out shortly before 5 a.m. in Patrick’s apartment in the Trento province. According to preliminary investigations, the blaze appears to have been caused by a domestic accident, possibly a pot left on a heated stovetop. Neighbors were the first to notice smoke coming from the apartment and alerted emergency services.
Patrick Vettori was well-known in his community and had recently announced his candidacy for upcoming municipal elections. Just days before the tragedy, he had shared his political aspirations on Facebook, writing: “I have decided to run in the next municipal elections with the Civic list for Mezzocorona because I want to give my personal contribution to the community.”
He worked at his family’s real estate agency and was described as a bright, ambitious young man who was building a promising future for himself.
Marvin Vettori, 31, currently ranked 10th in the UFC middleweight division, shared a heartfelt tribute to his brother on Instagram: “You were and will always be number 1, my little brother! You left leaving an unbridgeable void, I will love you until my last breath. I don’t think I will be the same after today because maybe I never told you, but my strength has always been you.”
The UFC fighter continued his emotional message: “You were the smartest and most intelligent between us two, you were creating a wonderful future for yourself and I cannot come to terms with it.”
Marvin Vettori has made his mark as one of Italy’s most successful MMA athletes, becoming the youngest Italian to debut in the American UFC and the first Italian to compete in a main event fight in the organization.
Friends and fellow athletes have flooded social media with messages of support for Marvin and his family. UFC personality Megan Olivi commented, “Oh Marvin I’m so sorry, we are praying for all of you ” while other notable figures from the combat sports world including Giorgio Petrosyan also expressed their condolences.
In his poignant tribute, Marvin concluded: “They say that Jesus prematurely calls back the most beautiful souls to have them with him in paradise, and so I hope it is, that you are there with him looking and watching over us with the kindness that has always distinguished you. I love you my brother, and although it will not be easy to continue a life without you, it comforts me to know that one day I will be buried by your side.”
