During a Peru Cup match in the Ancash region, a referee was forced to defend himself against an aggressor who entered the field with apparent hostile intentions.
The incident occurred last weekend in the coastal city of Casma during a match between Sport Huaquilla and Magdalena CEDEC in the Casma Distrital League. What began as a typical soccer contest quickly escalated into a chaotic scene following a contentious decision.
According to local media reports, referee Luis Alegre had just expelled a Magdalena player when a man suddenly rushed onto the pitch wielding a plastic bottle. As the unauthorized individual approached and threw the bottle at him, Alegre responded with remarkable reflexes, raising his right leg and delivering a precise kick that connected with the invader’s upper-chest and head area.
The defensive move immediately dropped the aggressor to the ground, after which security personnel quickly intervened to prevent any further confrontation between the parties involved.
The match was subsequently suspended following the altercation, with officials determining it was no longer safe to continue play.
This incident highlights the occasional security challenges faced by match officials in regional competitions, where emotions can run high and pitch security may not be as robust as in professional leagues.
Neither Sport Huaquilla nor Magdalena CEDEC have issued official statements regarding the incident as of reporting time.
