In a recent interview with The MMA Guru, UFC featherweight Bryce Mitchell continued his streak of controversial historical claims, this time declaring his German heritage while making dubious statements about World War II.
During the wide-ranging conversation that touched on religion, communism, and farming, Mitchell made a point to emphasize his ancestral background, stating: “I have German Heritage and I’m not afraid to talk about my German Heritage.”
The Arkansas native then proceeded to make questionable assertions about Adolf Hitler and World War II history. “I never said H*tler was perfect but I’m just telling you there is more to the history than what you learn in school,” Mitchell claimed. He added a peculiar criticism of H*tler’s military strategy: “H*tler did some dumb s*it. He invaded Russia in the winter. How dumb does it get?”
When The MMA Guru suggested that his decision-making was influenced by methamph*tamine use, Mitchell agreed, saying, “that was after the m*th.”
Invasion of the Soviet Union (Operation Barbarossa) began on June 22, 1941 – during summer, not winter. The German forces were eventually caught in the Russian winter because the campaign took longer than expected, but the invasion itself was deliberately timed to avoid winter conditions.
These statements follow previous controversial comments Mitchell has made about historical events that have drawn criticism from MMA media and fans alike. In the interview, Mitchell expressed frustration about the backlash to his historical opinions, claiming he’s been unfairly targeted.
“I’ve never hurt nobody, I’ve never hated nobody, I’ve never produced any hate speech you will not find it,” Mitchell insisted. “And anybody that wants to debate me they can come get schooled and bring a notepad and a pencil because you’re gonna have to write down the shift that I say because there’s so much of it you won’t be able to take it all in at once.”
Throughout the interview, Mitchell also shared his religious views, out there theories about Elon Musk, and his belief that his upcoming opponent Jean Silva is “possessed.” He insisted that mainstream media and MMA journalists are “cowards” who won’t engage with his viewpoints.
Mitchell is scheduled to face Silva at UFC 314, a matchup he describes as “a battle of good versus evil.”
