A devastating knee injury brought an unexpected end to Thomas ‘The Bomber’ Carty’s highly anticipated American debut at Madison Square Garden last night, resulting in his first professional loss.
Carty, who entered the bout as an overwhelming favorite with 98% of Tapology Community Picks backing him to win, faced Dajuan ‘The Punisher’ Calloway in what promised to be a showcase performance. However, fate had other plans.
With approximately one minute remaining in the second round, Carty suddenly dropped to the canvas, his knee appearing to give way beneath him. Despite showing tremendous heart by attempting to continue, the Irish heavyweight’s mobility was severely compromised.
“His knee buckled, oh he’s hurt badly,” observed the commentary team as Carty tried to persevere through the injury.
The situation deteriorated rapidly as Carty fell two more times while attempting to evade his 400+lb opponent. After the second round concluded, Carty’s corner made the difficult decision to stop the contest, resulting in a TKO victory for Calloway.
The unfortunate ending marked Carty’s first defeat, bringing his record to 10-1, while Calloway improved to 11-3.
The evening’s main event saw ‘King’ Callum Walsh maintain his perfect record with an impressive first-round knockout of Dean Sutherland. Walsh secured the victory with a devastating combination, culminating in a precise uppercut that ended the contest.
The card, hosted at the iconic Madison Square Garden, featured several notable results:
Callum Walsh def. Dean Sutherland, via round one KO
Emmet Brennan def. Kevin Cronin, via unanimous decision
Feargal McCrory def. Keenan Carbajal, via round eight KO
Cletus Seldin def. Yeis Gabriel Solano, via majority decision
Dajuan Calloway def. Thomas Carty, via TKO-retirement (injury)
Donagh Keary def. Geral S. Alicea-Romero, via unanimous decision
Sean O’Bradaigh vs Jefferson Christopher Almeida ends in majority draw
Walsh is expected to return to action in Los Angeles this July.
