Former UFC champion BJ Penn has made a series of concerning accusations on Instagram, claiming that his own mother is an impostor. The MMA legend took to social media to allege that a woman at his family home was not his real mother, Lorraine Shin, and called on Hilo police for assistance.
In an Instagram post, Penn wrote:
“Hilo police this lady is not Lorraine Shin! She is at our Penn family house right now #hawaii”
His claims immediately sparked a wave of reactions from fans and followers, with many expressing concern for his well-being. While some questioned his mental state, others speculated on the nature of his accusations. One comment read:
“Everybody’s so quick to write people off as crazy. It’s HIS mom. I think he would know if it’s her or not.”
Another user was less convinced, responding:
“Bro I think it’s just your mum.”
The situation escalated further when Penn posted a second video in which he accused the Abiley family of murdering his mother and brother—both of whom are very much alive. In the video, Penn appears agitated, directing expletive-laden comments at an unidentified individual and doubling down on his belief that his mother has been replaced.
Transcript of Penn’s Rant:
“This lady right here… look at her a*s and legs. She’s acting like my 79-year-old mother. But she’s not my 79-year-old mother.”
He then went on to suggest that an online search for “Lorraine Abilay” links directly to their home, implying some kind of conspiracy.
“She’s trying to steal everything. And this is not my mother. And I’m putting this up because she’s saying that she’s going to get an attorney and try to do something. She’s trying to throw me out, and if I attack her, she’ll try to do something, TRO or something else.”
The distressing posts have left fans deeply worried about the former champion’s mental health, with some pointing to potential signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE)—a condition associated with repeated head trauma in combat sports.
One commenter wrote:
“CTE, man. Bro is going downhill.”
Another pleaded for intervention:
“Holy sht, someone needs to help BJ.”*
This is not the first time Penn has made headlines for erratic behavior. The former UFC star has a history of controversial incidents, including public altercations and past legal troubles. His latest accusations, however, have taken things to an entirely new level, leaving many to question whether he is in urgent need of professional help.
