Former UFC competitor Tyson Pedro marked his professional boxing debut with a victory, securing a seventh-round knockout against previously undefeated Taimoor Khan at Wednesday night’s Nowhere To Run event.
Pedro demonstrated superior skill throughout the contest against the Pakistani fighter, maintaining composure and capitalizing on opportunities before delivering the final sequence that ended Khan’s evening.
“It was always meant to happen,” Pedro said. “This is the smallest crowd I’ve fought in front of in a long time, but it’s the biggest fight of my life. Thank you everyone for f—ing coming.”
The victory held special significance for Pedro, who had faced setbacks in his journey to the boxing ring. After departing from the UFC, many believed his combat sports career was finished. However, Pedro chose to pursue boxing, though his intended debut against Kris Terzievski was postponed twice last year due to injury and payment disagreements.
Competing in front of his hometown supporters in Penrith, the former MMA athlete proved his boxing abilities, suggesting promising prospects ahead.
The contest saw Pedro in control from the opening bell. “He is a natural fighter – we knew that from MMA – but he is looking like a very natural boxer as well,” commentator Andy Raymond noted on Stan Sport.
As the bout progressed, Khan showed visible signs of damage around his eyes, while Pedro maintained his dominance. “He is setting him up – he is so relaxed,” observed Barry Michael on the broadcast.
The conclusion came in the seventh round when Pedro dropped Khan, leading to the stoppage. “This guy was just dominant … he could not have done it any more impressively. One of the best debuts I have ever seen,” Michael added. “He is in incredible shape.”
The victory marks a successful transition for Pedro as he begins his professional boxing journey, demonstrating his versatility across combat sports disciplines.
