(Video) Punches get thrown after the bell, cage gets invaded at EFC MMA event

In yet another chaotic turn of events for the Kyrgyzstan-based promotion EFC Global, their latest event, EFC Global 49, descended into mayhem on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the Sports Palace Kozhomkul in Bishkek. The event, which was broadcast live on YouTube, saw not one, but two separate incidents that left fans and officials stunned.

Post-Bell Brawl

The first incident occurred when punches were thrown after the bell had sounded to end a bout. While the exact details of the bout and the stars involved are yet to be confirmed, eyewitnesses report that tensions boiled over as one  refused to acknowledge the end of the contest. This resulted in a brief but intense exchange of blows, forcing officials to intervene swiftly to separate the combatants.

Cage Invasion

As if that wasn’t enough drama for one night, a second incident unfolded when an unauthorized individual managed to breach security and invade the cage. The intruder’s motives remain unclear, but their presence caused immediate chaos within the arena. Security personnel scrambled to remove the invader, while fighters and officials inside the cage were left momentarily bewildered by the unexpected intrusion.

Referee Takes Matters Into Own Hands

In a separate incident at the same event, reports suggest that a referee had to resort to extreme measures to control an unruly fighter. Eyewitnesses claim that the official was forced to apply a RNC to subdue the fighter, who was allegedly refusing to comply with post-fight protocols.

A Pattern of Chaos

This isn’t the first time EFC Global has made headlines for unconventional occurrences during their events. Just last month, at EFC Global 48, fighters had to contend with a rain-soaked cage after a heavy downpour leaked through the arena roof. The slippery conditions led to several comedic moments, including a fighter face-planting during a celebratory backflip attempt.

Even further back, the promotion gained notoriety when Bakytbek Nuristan delivered a thunderous 10-second head kick knockout that was audible throughout the arena, causing a ripple effect through the audience.

The Khabib Effect?

Some observers have drawn parallels between these incidents and the influence of former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov on MMA in the region. While Khabib’s success has undoubtedly boosted the sport’s popularity in Central Asia, critics argue that some of his more controversial out-of-cage behaviors may have set a problematic precedent for younger stars.
