Terrence Crawford believes UFC broadcast mix up was intentional

Terence Crawford recently shared his thoughts on a humorous case of mistaken identity during a high-profile UFC event. The UFC 306 pay-per-view, held at the renowned Las Vegas Sphere, attracted attention from the world of combat sports. Among the stars present was Crawford, fresh off his recent triumph in the boxing ring. However, it wasn’t his boxing accolades making headlines this time, but rather a slip-up by the UFC broadcast team, which mistakenly labeled him as rapper Kendrick Lamar.

The event itself was packed with action, featuring two championship bouts, including Mexico’s Alexa Grasso defending her flyweight title against Valentina Shevchenko, and a highly anticipated bantamweight clash involving Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O’Malley. But while the fights raged on in the octagon, an amusing mix-up unfolded outside it. Seated beside Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia, Crawford’s identity seemed to blur — at least in the eyes of the UFC broadcast, which accidentally tagged him as Kendrick Lamar.

Naturally, the mistake didn’t go unnoticed, as fans quickly shared the blunder across social media, generating plenty of buzz. Crawford, always quick to laugh off a strange situation, responded with humor when asked about the incident. In a recent interview, he expressed his amusement over the mix-up, recalling how friends and family bombarded him with texts once the error aired.

“It was funny because everyone was blowing up my phone, saying, ‘They called you Kendrick Lamar!’ I wasn’t really paying attention at first,” Crawford told TMZ, reflecting on the confusion. “Then the pictures started rolling in, and it became clear. I couldn’t help but laugh. I mean, come on, how do you get us mixed up?”

Crawford went on to speculate, half-jokingly, that the mistake might have been intentional, just for a few laughs. After all, how often does a boxing champion get mistaken for one of the biggest names in music? For fans watching, it added a layer of entertainment to an already action-packed evening. While the UFC may have fumbled his name, Crawford took it all in stride, displaying the same poise and calm that has made him a champion inside the ring.

”To be honest, I think it was intentionally done just for laughters because how can you get us mixed up.”
