Canelo and De La Hoya Feud Escalated After ‘Kitchen Utensil’ Comment, Driving De La Hoya to Choose UFC Over Boxing

Boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez has publicly confronted his former promoter Oscar De La Hoya at the presser for his event against Jaime Munguia, bringing to light some deeply personal and controversial allegations. The heated exchange occurred during a press conference ahead of Canelo’s event against Jaime Munguia in Las Vegas.

The tension between the two boxing icons has been simmering since their professional split in 2020, but it reached a boiling point when De La Hoya took the podium to criticize Canelo’s career trajectory. In response, the Mexican champion unleashed a verbal tirade, accusing De La Hoya of various misdeeds and questionable behavior.

Canelo’s most surprising claim referenced a 2018 incident involving De La Hoya and two Instagram models. According to reports, De La Hoya was allegedly at the center of a $2 million extortion plot, where compromising footage was captured at his luxury condominium in Pasadena, California.

The current undisputed super middleweight champion didn’t mince words, suggesting that De La Hoya had engaged in “depraved acts” involving kitchen utensils. This allegation left the audience stunned and social media ablaze with speculation.

De La Hoya, a former multi-division world champion himself, has faced similar controversies in the past. In 2007, photos surfaced showing him in women’s clothing, which he initially denied but later admitted were authentic. In 2011, he was sued by a model who claimed he had participated in inappropriate behavior at a New York hotel, though that case was ultimately dismissed.

“I’m glad I said they were real, because it set me free,” De La Hoya told club shay shay. “Really? Oh, yeah. Yeah, they’re out there 15 years ago, so what? I mean, what? I bet if I asked 30 people here, 20 of them say, yeah, I’ve worn something from a woman. In closed doors. That’s what happens. Mine just came out publicly.”

All this has led to De La Hoya choosing to support longtime foe Dana White and attend UFC Noche over Canelo’s event against Berlanga. The two events are going head to head in Las Vegas this weekend.

Oscar De La Hoya has stirred controversy with his candid remarks on the upcoming Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga event as well. The former boxing champion criticized the $89.99 DAZN pay-per-view price, calling the bout a “mismatch” that lacks the excitement and competitive edge fans expect. De La Hoya questioned Berlanga’s readiness to face a seasoned opponent like Canelo, despite Berlanga’s undefeated record. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the event’s undercard, suggesting it lacks depth. De La Hoya’s remarks extended to a personal jab at Dana White, with whom he shares a rivalry, referencing that they’ve both undergone an ab etching plastic surgery.

Oscar De La Hoya isn’t exactly siding with White – he’ll be attending UFC 306 which is co sponsored by Riyadh Season thanks to his amicable relationship with Turki Alalshikh.

Alalshikh also shares a conflict with Canelo due to the reluctance to agree to a Benavidez boxing match in Riyadh.
