Brock Lesnar’s daughter named ‘Athlete of the Year’ despite not making the Olympic team

Mya Lesnar, the daughter of WWE and UFC legend Brock Lesnar, has been named the 2023-24 Mountain West Female Athlete of the Year. This prestigious award comes despite her recent disappointment of failing to make the USA Olympic team for the 2024 Paris Games.

Mya, a track and field star at the University of Colorado USC, has had a breakout season, showcasing her exceptional talent in the shot put. She holds the indoor and outdoor shot put records at USC with throws of 19.10 and 19.08 meters, respectively. However, at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Team trials in June, Mya finished last in the women’s shot-put final with a throw of 16.77 meters, falling short of her Olympic dream.

Despite this setback, Mya has quickly rebounded, becoming the 2024 NCAA Indoor Shot Put National Champion in February. She followed this up with a second All-America nod in the outdoor shot put for her performances at the NCAA championships in June.

Mya’s impressive achievements have not gone unnoticed, as she beat out stiff competition to claim the coveted Mountain West Female Athlete of the Year award. She is only the second USC athlete to win this prestigious accolade.

The 22-year-old athlete acknowledges the support of her famous father, WWE and UFC icon Brock Lesnar, who has been a constant presence in her life. However, Mya is determined to carve out her own athletic legacy, stating, “It’s really not about my dad. He is one of my biggest supporters, but honestly, at the end of the day, I am here to make a name for myself.”

Mya’s viral moment came last December when she broke her school shot put record, drawing praise from the likes of UFC superstar Conor McGregor and others who noted her striking resemblance to her father. But Mya is focused on her own journey, saying, “I think I’ve been in his shadow for so many years, which is cool, I guess, but at the end of the day, what I want people to know is he’s ‘dad’ to me. I honestly don’t look at him as this superstar of a person.”

As Mya Lesnar continues to excel in her athletic pursuits, her determination to forge her own path and establish her own legacy as a standout competitor is evident. With the Mountain West Female Athlete of the Year award under her belt, the future looks bright for this rising star, who is determined to make her mark on the world of sports.
