MMA Pros send letters to Judge Shelyna Brown – Free Cain Velasquez!

MMA community was shaken up when it was revealed former UFC champion Cain Velasquez was arrested for an attempted murder. In the eyes of many, what Velasquez did was merited. As a reminder Velasquez pursued an alleged child molester who was released on bail and shot at a car he was in.

Yesterday morning a San Jose judge Shelyna Brown denied bail for Velasquez in spite of having received a number of letters of support from prominent personalities Velasquez knew. Among those who penned letters of support are huge names such as Dana White, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Henry Cejudo, Kamaru Usman, Bellator CEO Scott Coker, Brandan Moreno and more.

According to the judge, Velasquez was denied bail, saying his alleged actions were “reckless,” and the “risk is too great” to allow him out of county jail. If only the legal system was this diligent when it came to the case of the man who abused a 4 year old relative over 100 times – and is suspected of having abused many more.

Cain Velasquez will be in jail at the very least until April 12th when he is scheduled to stand again in front of a judge. The only way this could change would be if the prosecution changes its position. This looks highly unlikely at this time. His team issued a public statement after the hearing.

Velasquez has a high powered legal team headlined by well-known Lawyer Mark Geragos. Geragos recently defended cult leader Keith Raniere. His famous clients also include Michael Jackson, Winona Ryder, Colin Kaepernick, Chris Brown and Jussie Smollett. After the UFC star was denied bail in the San Jose shooting case, Geragos voiced his disapproval with the criminal justice system.

“This is why people are disgusted – and rightfully so – with the criminal justice system,” Geragos said. “We plan on vindicating Cain. We plan on getting Cain back to his family.”

Geragos added, “In 40 years of doing this, I can’t believe that this is what the criminal justice system thinks is the right outcome.”
