Strongmen Brian Shaw and Eddie Hall have come forward to share their disappointment and financial setbacks following the cancellation of a highly anticipated mixed martial arts tournament.
The event, which was slated to feature some of the world’s strongest athletes, including Shaw, Hall, Martyn Ford, and Mitchell Hooper, was scheduled to take place on February 17th at Lusail Stadium in Qatar. However, the tournament fell apart just weeks before the scheduled date, leaving the competitors with significant financial losses.
In a recent podcast, Eddie Hall revealed the extent of the impact this cancellation had on his life and career. “I just wasted six months of my life for nothing,” he lamented. “You know, I turned down hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of work. It’s affected your business, it’s affected your YouTube. It’s just had this massive knock-on effect. It probably lost me… we’re talking six figures, easy. Well, well in the six figures. Probably closer to seven [figures].”
Similarly, Brian Shaw, a four-time World’s Strongest Man champion, expressed his frustration with the situation. “It’s been a really difficult and challenging situation,” he said. “We put in so much time, effort, and resources into preparing for this event, only to have the rug pulled out from under us at the last minute.”
The cancellation of the event has not only been a financial blow to the athletes but has also taken a toll on their mental and physical well-being. The intense training regimen they had undertaken in preparation for the tournament has left them with a sense of disappointment and uncertainty.
“We were all really excited about the opportunity to showcase our skills in a different arena,” said Hall. “But the way it all unfolded has been incredibly disheartening.”
The situation has also raised concerns about the integrity of the event’s organizers and the potential for similar scenarios to occur in the future. The strongmen have vowed to be more cautious in their approach to any future events, prioritizing their financial and professional well-being.
Despite the setback, both Shaw and Hall remain determined to continue their athletic pursuits and maintain their status as two of the world’s strongest individuals. They are now focused on regrouping and exploring new opportunities that align with their values and long-term goals.
