Sean Strickland teaches his new dog to swim despite previously arguing against men who dote on their dogs

In a heartwarming display of responsible pet ownership, UFC middleweight contender Sean Strickland has been busy teaching his new dog to swim in a recent video. The MMA star’s dedication to his pet’s safety is admirable, especially considering the potential dangers of pool accidents.

Strickland, who is set to face Paulo Costa at UFC 302, has been using his downtime to focus on his new furry friend. In a recent video, he shared his concerns about his dog’s safety around his pool, stating, “I have this pool, and if he falls in, he’s gonna die, so every day I’ve been throwing him in the pool like a bad dog parent to get him to know how to get out of the pool.”

The UFC fighter’s unorthodox method may seem harsh, but it’s a necessary evil to ensure his dog’s safety. Strickland explained, “He absolutely hates it, and I feel like a bastard every time I do it, but it’s like a necessary evil, and it’s something that has to happen.” His efforts seem to be paying off, as he noted, “Before, he used to just beeline to the wall, and I’m like, ‘Man, my dog is gonna die.’ So, he’s getting way better at it.”

Strickland’s candid comments about his dog’s safety also shed light on his views on emotional support animals. The star expressed skepticism about the concept, stating, “I’m not a huge fan of like emotional support dogs. I think you should man up and just kind of like bury it like a man and slowly be depressed.” While his views may not align with everyone’s, his dedication to his own pet’s well-being is undeniable.

When he’s not busy training or teaching his dog to swim, Strickland likes to keep a low profile. He revealed that he prefers a quieter life, saying, “Once I’m done fighting, I’ll probably move somewhere a little bit quiet, smaller town, with a bad pup.” His girlfriend, whom he jokingly referred to as his “maybe wife,” seems to be supportive of his lifestyle, and Strickland is grateful for his life, stating, “Life’s good, man. I’m not poor. No complaints. I don’t have cancer yet. You know, enjoy while it lasts.”

As Strickland prepares for his upcoming fight, fans can take comfort in knowing that he’s a dedicated pet owner who prioritizes his dog’s safety. With his new dog by his side, Strickland is ready to take on the challenges of the UFC and beyond.
