Umar Nurmagomedov wished for Peace in Russia – Translator: I want to thank Russia

Umar Nurmagomedov was booed during his post fight speech earlier tonight.

Umar Nurmagomedov is the real deal. The 26 year old undefeated cousin of Khabib Nurmagomedov just scored his 2nd victory in the UFC against Brian Kelleher. Nurmagomedov previously fought Sergey Morozov back in January of 2021. Nurmagomedov outlined he would be ready to fight again in a week.

Umar steamrolled Brain Kelleher in round one and got a rear naked choke after just 3 minutes of round 1.

The audience was not very charged – up until the moment Umar thanked Russia and Dagestan for the support along with his team. Then the booing came in.

But during the post fight speech Nurmagomedov actually got mistranslated – as Russian speaking audience noted:
“Umar Nurmagomedov just said:
I want to thank my team, I would like to thank my whole family in Russia, he said some names and the last sentence was: “Let there be peace” but the translator decided not to translate that bit…”

For those unaware, Nurmagomedovs actually have a lengthy history with Ukraine with Khabib even applying for Ukrainian papers in the past.

And if you love controversies – you’re gonna love this one. UFC hasn’t published the post fight interview on the official channel along with other post fight speeches.
