In a recent interview, UFC middleweight contender Joaquin Buckley revealed that he turned down a fight against rising star Ian Garry, citing concerns over the Irish star’s rumored herpes outbreak. Buckley’s decision has sparked interest in the MMA community, with many speculating about the reasons behind his choice.
When asked about the fight, Buckley stated, “I declined that one though, but I got it. No, no, no. I got back, back off and stuff.” He then jokingly added, “I ain’t want to catch no herpes, ni*ga.” The “hurts” in question are believed to be a reference to herpes, a rumor that has been circulating about Garry.
Buckley’s decision to turn down the bout has also been attributed to his dissatisfaction with Garry’s hygiene. He described the Irish fighter as “not fun to watch” and claimed that his promotional tactics are “lame and dried out.” Buckley emphasized that he’s looking for fights that will take him closer to the title, and Garry doesn’t fit the bill.
“I didn’t want to fight Ian Garry because he’s not that dude to me,” Buckley said. “He’s trying to get back out there, but he’s just not that exciting, and the way he promotes his fights is kind of lame.”
The welterweight contender is currently 19-6 in MMA. He’s been making a name for himself in the MMA world, and his recent win streak has earned him a reputation as a formidable opponent. Buckley’s careful approach to selecting his opponents has raised eyebrows, but he remains adamant that he’s making the right decisions for his career.
“I didn’t duck anybody, and I didn’t do anything wrong,” Buckley stressed. “I’m just picking my shots, and I’m feeling blessed to be where I’m at right now.”
In his own words, “I deserve to call my shot a little bit. Can’t nobody say I’m ducking the dodge than anybody.”
