Jon Jones is one of the most polarizing figures in MMA today, the former light heavyweight champion accomplished a lot in the sports while attracting a lot of bad attention outside the octagon.
Jones’ antics outside of the cage eventually reached the people around him and resulted in several missteps in his career – like his arrests, stripping of the belt, and most recently, being kicked out of his long-time gym, Jackson Wink MMA.
The conduct of the youngest UFC champion in history has always been a hot topic in the MMA community.
In a recent appearance on PBD Podcast, former teammate and opponent of Jones, Rashad Evans discussed how he sees Jones.
The host, Bet-David made a comparison regarding Jones that put him in the same category as NBA legend Michael Jordan, for the contribution to the sport while also with another NBA legend Dennis Rodman, for his misdemeanors outside the sport.
“He’s got Michael in him, but he’s got Rodman in him too. Very weird dynamics… maybe a little Dwight Goodman,” he said. Which Evans nodded in agreement with Bet-David.
Evans and Jones used to train together at the Greg Jackson camp back in their early professional days.
During those days, Evans snatched the UFC light heavyweight championship belt from Forrest Griffin in a Fight of the Night winner bout while Jones climbed his ranks within the same division.
Things worsen when Evans lost to Lyoto Machida. The belt switched hands for a while until Jones won it after beating then-champion Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua.
Evans eventually made his way back to title pictures and got a shot to face Jones for the belt in 2012. As the friends turn into foes, they fought each other resulting in Jones winning by unanimous decision.
Fast forward to the present time, Evans recently made a comeback a successful comeback against Gabriel Checco at Eagle FC 44 last month while Jones has been out of the competition for almost three years and eyeing a comeback at the heavyweight division in near future.
