Diego Sanchez is prepared to make his bare-knuckle boxing debut. He has a matchup in mind should he defeat Austin Trout on February 17 at BKFC KnuckleMania 3.
Sanchez said in an interview that he would like to take on Nate Diaz, but he doesn’t think the Stockton native wants anything to do with him. He said that Diaz has not been all that interested in competing against him because of his brother, Nick Diaz.
Sanchez stated:
“Nate won’t fight because I beat his bigger brother. He idolizes his bigger brother in this weird way and I’ve been trying to fight Nate (Diaz) for 10 years. But if this performance (against Austin Trout) can be so epic and so powerful and so dominant – and it will be – I have a chance at snagging that Nate Diaz fight.”
Sanchez went on to say that he would adore being the first boxer to defeat both Diaz siblings. He also said that Diaz would choose a more profitable bout, which makes sense to him.
Sanchez continued:
“That’s what we’re trying to do. Fight, get paid the most we could get paid to do the fight. That’s the business of mixed martial arts and boxing, all this s**t. So, he’s got Conor McGregor, he’s got Jake Paul, and he’s got Floyd Mayweather. He’s got those three fights that could possibly be big huge paydays for him, so I’ll be around, man.”
On November 5, 2005, in the TUF season 2 finale, Sanchez squared off against Nick Diaz. Sanchez put up a strong performance, and the three judges unanimously awarded him the victory with scores of 30-27.

With the victory, Sanchez extended his MMA record to 14-0 and stayed undefeated for a while there. Diaz dropped to 11-4. Sanchez finished his UFC run with an MMA record consisting of 30 wins and 13 losses.
Diaz is currently on 26 wins 10 losses and 2 no contests.
