Joe Rogan discusses Chimaev weight miss, says weight cutting is sanctioned cheating

UFC 279 will forever be remembered as the card where 3 main events were reshuffled in a historic last day scramble. This is all due to Khamzat Chimaev missing weight by staggering 7.5 lbs.

Chimaev was also a sore sport about it, giving the media ‘the finger’ afterwards.

This didn’t sit right with the fans who promptly booed Chimaev through out his match and spectacular win over Kevin Holland.

Joe Rogan recently had MMA videographer Will Harris on the podcast and the two discussed a variety of hot topics in MMA including Khamzat Chimaev.

“I mean, it’s not like the guy gets fat, but, you know, he’s draining himself. So I think there should be more weight classes. Not only that, I think they should eliminate weight cutting.”

“I think it’s it’s the dumbest thing in the world to 24 hours before a f**king cage fight. You literally dehydrate your organs, your brain, everything you get yourself.”

“It’s sanctioned cheating.”

Chimaev had previously struggled to make 170lbs and had even tried to use Daniel Cormier’s towel trick albeit unsuccessfully. He’s since cryptically tweeted ‘185’ designating apossible change of divisions to Middleweight.

Chimaev had an altercation with Costa at the UFC PI prior to UFC 279 and in the aftermath Costa shaded Chimaev sayin he’s only interested in small welterweights.

“I know you just want to fight small guys, short guys, shy guys like Burns. Guys who you can beat and be a bully, but I’m not. I’m a big one, I’m the biggest middleweight in the UFC so you cannot bully me.”
