Usman Nurmagomedov’s Family: He Knows His Own Law, But He Just Does Not Know The Police Law

Usman Nurmagomedov found himself in some hot water when it emerged the young Bellator fighter was involved in a hit and run incident in Dagestan.  Nurmagomedov was said to be detained by police in Mosco after a vehicle he was in struck a police officer and kept driving. This is alleged to have happened at a police checkpoint by an airport near Kaspiysk in Dagestan.

A police statement was published by Russian outlet VZ, according to a translation published by The Sun.

Now the media has caught up with his relatives – and are asking questions about it. Nurmagomedov’s grandma said of the young fighter:

“If he came drunk, if he came to fight… But he didn’t. There is no need to blame. The guys should be left alone. The guy does not drink, does not smoke, fights normally. Where he fights, there he knows his own law, but he just does not know the police law. ”

“He is also young. Very sociable, calm by nature, respectful. The guys were probably in a hurry. He will deliberately never do this in his life, ” Usman’s grandmother said in a video posted on the SHOT YouTube channel.

Meanwhile Bellator was asked to comment.

“The promotion has been made aware of the situation involving Usman Nurmagomedov and is in the process of gathering information and have no further comment at this time.” their statement read.
