Conor McGregor was recently the target of criticism – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy slammed McGregor over 2018 picture featuring Vladimir Putin.
In 2018, the Irish sports star Conor McGregor met Vladimir Putin in person when they attended the World Cup Final in Moscow. They chatted for a little bit and took a picture together. McGregor also gave Putin a bottle of his ‘Proper 12’. It was several months before his controversial bout with the Russian athlete Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Russia first escalated situation with Ukraine all the way back in 2014 when it invaded and annexed Crimea.
Which is perhaps why Conor McGregor’s chance meeting with Vladimir Putin left a lasting impression.
Irish politician Mark Daly revealed:
“[Volodymyr Zelenskyy] felt he[McGregor] wasn’t being supportive of Ukraine. This man is fighting a war but he knows what’s going on all around the world including in Ireland.” Daly told the Irish Independent.
“This man is one of the greatest leaders of our time and I was honored to attend such a landmark event alongside him. Today was an honor for me Mr. Putin. Thank you and congratulations on an amazing World Cup.” McGregor said after the meeting.
Now McGregor’s dad is coming to his defense.
Tony McGregor posted a photo on Instagram of Zelensky seated at a table alongside French president Emmanuel Macron, former German chancellor Angela Merkel, and Putin, along with the caption, “Zelensky, fight your war and keep my son’s name out yo f*****g mouth.”
McGregor’s father went on to post pictures of Putin alongside famous individuals such as U.S. President Joe Biden.
