Joe Rogan ridicules the idea of McGregor title shot return

UFC commentator Joe Rogan recently ridiculed the idea that Conor McGregor should be given a title shot upon return to the octagon following two consecutive defeats to Justin Poirier.

The Irishman repeatedly insinuated he will potentially face the winner of the upcoming UFC 274 main event between Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje.  Meanwhile Dana White offered that he’s not even entertaining the idea of a McGregor return and also left the door open for the possibility.

Rogan pointed out that the winner of that event likely won’t have enough time to recover because McGregor is eyeing a return in summer.

During a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan said:

“What they are talking about is Conor fighting for the title again, which is kind of hilarious. But if that does happen, it’ll be the winner of Justin Gaethje vs. Charles Oliveira.”

“But the thing about that fight is, when that fight takes place, you have to assume that they can be healed enough to fight in July. Because that doesn’t give you a lot of time, it’s only two months.”

It has been nine months since McGregor suffered a gruesome leg break during the first-round  loss to rival Dusntin Poirier back in July of 2021.

McGregor seems eager to return however he has to undergo a series of medical tests. The Irish sports star also appears to have grown a size during his break with his physique looking unrecognizable in recent weeks.

UFC president Dana White left the door open for a title shot return earlier in 2022 but as the date nears he’s choosing to not even discuss it until McGregor receives medical clearance.

According to White, the entire landscape could change by the time the “Notorious” is ready for a comeback:

“I literally have nothing for him right now, he’s not ready. The whole landscape could change over the summer. ”

“And when the doctor gives him 100 percent clearance we’ll start looking at possible opponents.”

“We’re looking at early fall if everything goes right. If his leg heals right and he gets the clearance to really start training, then possibly early fall.”
