Joe Rogan appeared genuinely astonished when the conversation on The Joe Rogan Experience turned to Donald Trump’s comments about Nicki Minaj. Speaking with comedian Colum Tyrrell, Rogan was discussing the unusual relationship between Trump and the rapper when the subject quickly became focused on her appearance.
“So Nicki Minaj is like a big Trump girl,” Tyrrell stated.
Rogan replied, saying, “Which is so odd, what’s that all about?”
Tyrrell responded with uncertainty, suggesting that Minaj might be trying to promote her music. However, Rogan seemed unable to understand why Trump would publicly emphasize her physical appearance.
The discussion centered on an appearance in which Trump praised Minaj and encouraged her to show herself to the audience. Rogan described the moment as weird, particularly because of the contrast between Trump’s position as a former president and the language he used while addressing a major music star.
“But he brought her out and he’s like, ‘Nicki Minaj is great.’ He goes, ‘She got a great [ ],’ Tyrrell stated.
Surprised, Rogan stated, “He said that?”
Minaj then stood up and turned for the audience, creating an awkward scene that left Rogan and Tyrrell laughing.
Tyrrell stated, “He goes, ‘Can’t miss that [ ].’ He goes, ‘Show them. Show them Nikki.’ And Nikki got up and did a little spin for the crowd.”
Appearing visibly embarrassed, Rogan said, “Oh my god!”
The exchange also prompted the two to reflect on the changing public image of American political figures. Tyrrell noted that presidents and other senior politicians once tended to speak in a more restrained manner, while modern political culture has become far more casual and openly personal.
“It’s crazy that politicians used to be so straight laced or like organized,” Tyrrell said. He added that public figures now swear more freely and make comments that would have once been considered unthinkable from someone in national office.
