Fitness influencer Derek Mercer (also known as ‘Emo Chad’) has sparked confusion across social media, with thousands of followers unable to determine whether they’re looking at a real person or an artificial intelligence creation.
The account, featuring an impossibly muscular figure with a Y2K emo aesthetic, has become the center of controversy as fitness experts reveal the truth behind the viral sensation.
The character displays proportions that defy human biology, sporting arms reportedly measuring 30 inches paired with a 30-inch waist while maintaining a full head of hair.
Fitness analysts who investigated the account point out that these measurements are physically impossible to achieve, even with PEDs. Yet comment sections remain flooded with users debating the authenticity of the posts, with many adamantly defending the figure as real.
What makes this situation particularly concerning is the commercial intent behind the deception. The account actively promotes a cryptocurrency meme coin and a mobile game, both linked directly in the profile.
The game itself has drawn criticism for its controversial content, featuring the AI character in scenarios that many find objectionable.
The confusion among followers highlights a growing problem with AI-generated content in 2025. Despite obvious visual inconsistencies and impossible physical proportions, a significant portion of the audience cannot identify the computer-generated nature of the images and videos.
From a technical perspective, achieving such a physique would theoretically require more than 2 grams of total androgens per week, over 10 IUs of growth hormone, and multiple types of insulin just to maintain the portrayed muscle mass. Even then, sustaining such size while remaining lean year-round would be virtually impossible.
Professional bodybuilders who do use such protocols typically cycle their usage and cannot maintain peak conditioning outside of competition prep.
The account even claims an age of 19 through its username, adding to the already unrealistic presentation. Real bodybuilders taking the theoretical PED regimen required for such a physique would experience severe side effects, including hair loss. Yet the AI character maintains a pristine hairline throughout all posts.
