Chris Williamson and Ben Greenfield put Zac Efron through a sweltering workout in a recent video. Between super sets, pull-ups, and dips, the conversation kept circling back to recovery tools that have quietly become the new frontier of wellness.
Ice baths and saunas have had their moment. Now, according to Efron, the hyperbaric chamber is where the real gains are made.
“Hyperbaric chamber is pretty elite,” Efron said. “I did a protocol with Gary Brecka at his house and I did it every day. I think I got to 18 consecutive days. Two hours.”
The depth and duration were dialed in specifically he explained, running “20 and 5” as the pressure protocol. But the results he said went beyond simply feeling recovered.
“After doing that many consecutive dives and altering the depths, not only did I feel a lot better and feel great, but sustained energy.”
Efron has taken his enthusiasm for the chamber a step further than most. He owns an upright hardshell model, tall enough that he can stand inside it, and he has found a way to make the sessions less monotonous.
“Oh, so you’ve got an upright one,” Williamson noted. “An upright hard shell,” Efron confirmed. “And I put my PS5 in there. And that is really fun.”
He went on to reveal that during one stretch inside the chamber, he managed to beat Elden Ring while sitting at pressure. Efron stated, “And whilst in the hyperbaric chamber, I was able to beat Elden Ring, which is an incredibly difficult game.”
Williamson was candid about why hyperbaric therapy has not caught on the way ice baths or saunas have.
“It’s weird though, trying to talk about it, because it’s so inaccessible,” he said. “You got to drive to wherever the place is. Most people don’t have one in the house. It’s impossible. Drive to wherever the place is. Two hours there. Ninety minutes down at depth. It’s expensive. It’s time consuming.”
