Joe Rogan has taken aim at Trump supporters, despite having played a major role in Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and endorsing him ahead of the election.
During a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan criticized some of the president’s most committed supporters, describing them as “nuts” and “rabid.”
“Trump supporters are f[]ing nuts, man,” Rogan said. “They’re rabid. ”
Rogan argued that, for some supporters, Trump has become more than just a political figure. “He represents something other than just a person to them,” he said.
“He represents a leader that they wish they had, which is a real problem in our society in general with leaders,” Rogan continued. He compared the attachment to the idea that a political leader will somehow come along and fix everything.
“Like, ‘This is the one. This is the one that’s going to save us, right?’” he said.
The comments stand out given Rogan’s own history with Trump. The podcaster endorsed Trump during the 2024 presidential election after Elon Musk made what Rogan described as a compelling case for the Republican candidate. Rogan also interviewed Trump for roughly three hours on his podcast shortly before the election.
That support had come despite Rogan previously saying he did not want to help Trump win another term, calling him an “existential threat to democracy” in comments made years earlier.
Rogan has since pushed back against the idea that his political views fit neatly into the MAGA camp. He said people associate him with the political right partly because they do not know him and because, in his words, he “look[s] right-wing.”
“And because I did kind of help Trump,” Rogan added.
At the same time, Rogan defended the reasons behind his 2024 endorsement. He said his decision was less about choosing between left and right and more about what he considered “rational” versus “insane.”
He pointed to issues including open borders, COVID mandates, vaccine requirements, online censorship and certain debates around pronouns and deadnaming as examples of what had pushed him away from the left.
Rogan also acknowledged that Trump’s promise to “drain the swamp” had not delivered the results he expected, saying, “Obviously, it’s not been ideal in that regard.”
