Jack Doherty is behind bars again, this time on a DV battery charge that could carry felony consequences far beyond his previous run-ins with the law.
According to sources, officers responded to a domestic dispute just before noon on the 1400 block of Southwest 5th Avenue. Investigators say Doherty reportedly got physical with a woman inside the home.
Court records list the charge as touch or strike battery, domestic vi0lence, under statute 784.03-1, with a separate reference to felony battery under statute 784.03.
That statute defines the offense as actually and intentionally touching or striking another person against their will, or intentionally causing bodily harm to another person. Doherty’s bond status is listed as HG, meaning no bail amount has been set until he makes a court appearance, so he is being held rather than released.
His booking photo shows what appears to be a fresh cut and scratches on his face, raising questions about what happened during the altercation and what condition the woman involved was left in. Those details have not yet been made public, and it remains unclear whether she sustained visible injuries or sought medical attention.
This is not Doherty’s first arrest in South Florida. Last November, he was taken into custody in Miami Beach on d*ug possession charges after police said he blocked traffic while filming social media content. That case did not result in significant legal consequences for him, and he continued posting online largely unaffected.
This latest arrest lands at an especially awkward moment for Doherty, who had just launched his own slap promotion in an apparent bid to build a Dana White style combat sports empire. The timing has not gone unnoticed online, with critics pointing out the irony of an aspiring promoter facing a battery charge involving a domestic partner rather than an opponent in the ring.
A similar incident has happened with UFC President Dana White, whose own slap incident made headlines ahead of the televised premiere of Power Slap. Video of the incident showed White slapping his wife, Anne, in the face after she slapped him during a verbal altercation. Anne later told TMZ that the incident was isolated and out of character. The controversy nevertheless followed White as he pushed forward with the launch of his slap-fighting promotion.
The felony battery statute cited in Doherty’s booking carries the potential for years in prison if he is convicted, a far more serious outcome than the drug case that preceded it. Given the hold on his bond, Doherty will need to wait for a court appearance before any release terms are determined.
