Fitness Influencers Are Shaming Cristiano Ronaldo For Having A ‘Mid’ Physique

Cristiano Ronaldo recently posted a physique transformation photo that racked up 18 million likes, yet a vocal corner of the internet has decided his body is not good enough.

Fitness influencer and coach Greg Doucette pushed back at the critics in a recent video, defending the idea that one of the most recognizable athletes on the planet has a physique that deserves respect, not ridicule.

The criticism circulating online described Ronaldo’s body as “mid,” and one post, which Doucette attributed to a woman, went as far as calling it “the worst body shape a man can have.”

Doucette’s response was direct. He argued that the vast majority of people watching his video would trade their physique for Ronaldo’s without a second thought.

At 40 years old, Ronaldo appears to be in better shape than he was at 30, with more developed calves, visible vascularity, and what Doucette estimated to be around 8% body fat.

Ronaldo at 30 vs 40

“This is clearly single-digit body fat,” Doucette said. He pointed out that Ronaldo’s lifestyle as a professional soccer player, which demands constant cardio, makes staying lean far more manageable than it would be for someone focused purely on gym training.

Doucette attributed the backlash to what he called “physique inflation,” a gradual warping of expectations driven by social media accounts that showcase heavily edited images, surgically altered bodies, and physiques built with PEDs.

“Yet somehow our idea of what a good body looks like has become completely distorted,” he said, pointing out that the same culture dismissing 225 lbs on the bench press as unimpressive and labeling Chris Bumstead’s off-season look a dad bod is now calling Ronaldo the worst shape a man can have.

The specific complaint from critics is that Ronaldo lacks the exaggerated V-taper, wide shoulders, and narrow waist that have become dominant markers in online fitness culture. Doucette acknowledged those observations without agreeing with the conclusion, noting that Ronaldo’s proportions put him at a 9 out of 10 rather than a perfect 10.

He also raised concern about where this culture is headed, pointing to teenagers turning to PEDs not to compete in bodybuilding but simply to match what they see online.

“We now have 14 year olds using performance-enhancing d**gs thinking they need to be perfect as teenagers,” he said.

His message: stop measuring yourself against enhanced and edited benchmarks, do your cardio consistently, and recognize what decades of genuine dedication actually produces. Ronaldo’s physique is not mid. It is the product of relentless work, and it is better than what 99% of the population will ever achieve.
