McGregor Wants Poirier To Take Personal Accountability For Viral Video

Conor McGregor was in Las Vegas for ahead of his rematch with Max Holloway when he was asked about former rival Dustin Poirier, who had recently been caught on a video circulating across social media. McGregor, who sat down with the Smash Cast crew, did not hold back on his thoughts, delivering a message that was part warning, part advice.

When the question was raised, the interviewer framed it around the idea that the media can be unforgiving, noting that even McGregor himself had been through similar public scrutiny. McGregor acknowledged the gravity of the situation and spoke from what appeared to be a place of experience.

“Take this with absolute seriousness,” McGregor said. “Do not engage in people. There’s people it was funny. It’s just I like them more. And you start laughing, maybe it wasn’t so bad. Maybe I’ll keep going and then the next one’s worse and then you slip deeper and deeper. So I would say take this with absolute seriousness.”

McGregor also touched on a separate controversy surrounding Poirier, referencing reports that the former lightweight contender had used PEDs after announcing his retirement.

“For him to retire and then go on ste**ids for no reason, I found that st*pid,” he stated. “And then even his body didn’t look any different, which had alarm bells going off in my thoughts.”

The sharpest part of McGregor’s comments came when addressing how Poirier had responded to the viral video. According to McGregor, Poirier had pointed to his father as part of the explanation for his behavior, a response McGregor found unacceptable.

McGregor noted, “He has to take accountability. I saw something where he came out and he was like his father. He blamed his father. You have to take accountability, my man.”

Despite the directness of his message, McGregor was clear that he did not want to dwell on it or push the topic further than necessary. He expressed that his concern for Poirier was genuine, especially given the timing of a new addition to the Poirier family.

He stated, “I’m not going to go deeper. I don’t want to go into it. It’s not my business, and for the sake of his family and his children, his new child born, I hope he comes right.”
