Eddie Hall walked away from his Misfits boxing bout against Tommy Fury on the wrong side of a points decision, but the former World’s Strongest Man believes the outcome would have looked very different under MMA rules.
Speaking after the contest, Eddie Hall was candid about how the evening played out, crediting Tommy Fury for his approach.
“I knew if it was going to go the six rounds, he was going to do me on points, and that’s exactly what happened. He chased around, wore me down. Was very, very hard to hit. And that was his game plan and it just exec uted well. That’s all I can say.”
Eddie Hall did land some punches during the bout, though not enough to influence the scorecards.
“You don’t go swimming and not get wet, but I didn’t catch him enough.”
He also referenced ongoing recovery work on his left arm after the serious injury suffered in his contest with Thor Bjornsson.
“I’m still very scared of throwing left hooks because it’s just the subconscious of not having a left arm for quite a while, but it’s slowly coming back in the training and sparring.”
The experience gap between Tommy Fury and Eddie Hall proved decisive. Fury’s professional boxing background and ring awareness allowed him to control much of the action.
“When I got in the ring with the seasoned pro athletes, I’ll be honest, it was a hard night out. There’s a big difference between amateur and pro. That’s someone that just sees everything coming, knows how to react, knows how to get out the way”
Despite the loss, Eddie Hall stressed that boxing has not been his main focus in recent years.
“It’s been two and a half years of MMA training really, and that’s what people don’t realize. I was training MMA for two and a half years and then I got asked to do this boxing contest.”
He expanded on where he feels most comfortable competing.
“If this was the MMA world, I would just hook his leg, he’d be on the floor, pull his arm down, and smash him in the face. That’s where I’m comfortable. But boxing, unfortunately, is not that. So hopefully he does a rematch in MMA.”
Eddie Hall also pushed back against hostility directed at Tommy Fury from the crowd, defending his opponent’s character.
” Give Tommy some praise. He’s a nice lad.”
Looking ahead, Eddie Hall left open the possibility of future Misfits appearances, while reiterating where his strengths lie.
“MMA is my strength because it just suits me better. But if they put the right deal on the table, who knows? I’ll take it.”
