Wrestling fans across the globe raised their eyebrows when WWE aired a promotional video package featuring an unexpected cameo from their biggest competitor’s championship belt, thanks to an AI mishap that slipped through quality control.
The incident occurred during AAA’s debut broadcast on Fox in Latin America, where a promo package spotlighting wrestler Dominik Mysterio contained animated sequences generated through AI technology. While the video was designed to showcase Mysterio with both WWE’s Intercontinental Championship and AAA’s Mega Championship titles, one particular frame caught the attention of sharp-eyed viewers.
In what has become a widely discussed moment on social media, the AI-generated imagery depicted Mysterio wearing a belt prominently displaying the AEW logo.
AEW, or All Elite Wrestling, stands as WWE’s primary competition in the professional wrestling landscape, making the error particularly noteworthy for the industry.
The mistake appears to have occurred while Mysterio was discussing his status as the new AAA champion. Wrestling observers have speculated whether a text prompt influenced the AI animation or if the system attempted to generate the word “new” but instead produced “AEW” on the championship belt.
Following the discovery, AAA removed a social media post that featured the problematic video package. WWE subsequently took down the entire promo from their official website, though not before screenshots and clips had already circulated throughout wrestling fan communities online.
The timing of this gaffe is particularly interesting given WWE’s history with AEW. Last year, the promotion drew criticism from wrestling fans and even some performers when they scheduled events to coincide with AEW’s marquee shows, a practice known as counterprogramming.
