YouTube sensation IShowSpeed learned a humbling lesson about professional martial arts during a recent visit to the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas.
The social media star found himself completely outmatched when he stepped onto the mats with UFC strawweight contender Vanessa Demopoulos.
Demopoulos’ journey from exotic dancer to professional cage athlete has made her a beloved figure among UFC fans. The black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu systematically submitted the streamer three times during their training session, showcasing techniques that left Speed visibly surprised.
The session began with Demopoulos quickly taking the encounter to the ground, where she secured the first submission using a triangle choke variation. Her technical prowess continued as she transitioned to leg attack positions, though fellow UFC fighter Caio Borralho cautioned her about the intensity. Demopoulos reassured him, stating “I won’t hurt him” while demonstrating her ability to control the pace.
What followed was a masterclass in grappling fundamentals. Demopoulos effortlessly pulled guard, nearly forcing a submission while Speed held her in his arms. She then smoothly transitioned through a head-and-arm choke before finishing the demonstration with an armbar, each technique flowing seamlessly into the next.
The experience left a lasting impression on the popular content creator. Speaking to his camera afterward, Speed expressed genuine amazement at Demopoulos’s capabilities, claiming she could have broken “every leg in my body” if she had chosen to apply full pressure to her submissions.
Despite currently navigating a three-bout losing streak in the octagon, Demopoulos’s technical skills remained razor-sharp during the training session.
The UFC strawweight was gracious in victory, taking to Instagram to praise her training partner’s attitude. “IShowSpeed came to the PI to have some fun today. He admired that he lost. So much fun!!” she wrote, acknowledging the streamer’s willingness to step outside his comfort zone.
The interaction sparked discussion among martial arts enthusiasts, with some questioning whether Demopoulos displayed the full extent of her black belt arsenal against a complete beginner. One coach humorously commented on her technique selection, asking “All this wrestling training and you pull guard ?!”
