Dustin Poirier said he’s getting on ster*ids after his retirement

UFC lightweight star Dustin Poirier has made a candid revelation about his plans after stepping away from professional competition, declaring his intention to dramatically transform his physique once his career ends.

Speaking candidly ahead of his retirement against Max Holloway at UFC 318 in New Orleans, Poirier shared that maintaining his 155-pound fighting weight has been a significant challenge throughout his career.

“So this will be the last time I’m ever 155 pounds in my life. I can promise you that,” Poirier stated emphatically, before revealing his post-retirement intentions.

“Listen, I’m getting on ste*ids,” the Louisiana native declared. “Once USADA stops knocking on my door and I lay the gloves down, I’m getting jacked and tanned. That’s the truth.”

. For years, Poirier has disciplined himself to make the lightweight division’s 155-pound limit, a process that typically involves rigorous dieting and careful weight management.

His comments highlight the physical toll that weight cutting takes on UFC athletes, many of whom compete significantly below their natural walking weight. Poirier, known for being one of the larger lightweights, has apparently been looking forward to leaving those restrictions behind.

The 35-year-old veteran even mentioned that his plan has received pushback from home. “My wife’s like, ‘No, you’re not,'” Poirier recounted with a laugh, before reaffirming, “I’m getting on it. That is so funny. That’s the honest truth.”

Poirier’s retirement bout against Holloway on July 18 marks the end of a storied career spanning 35 professional bouts. The contest will be their third meeting, with “The Diamond” having won their previous two encounters.

The card holds special significance as it takes place in Poirier’s home state of Louisiana, where he’s reportedly set to walk to the Octagon alongside fellow Louisiana legend Lil Wayne.

While  UFC prohibits the use of PEDs during an athlete’s active career, retired stars are no longer subject to their testing program, allowing them freedom to use substances that were previously forbidden.

For Poirier, it seems the prospect of a physical transformation represents just one of many liberties he’s looking forward to embracing in the next chapter of his life.
