Phil Hawes is eyeing an interesting addition to his corner for his upcoming Dirty Boxing Championships (DBX) debut – none other than polarizing figure Dillon Danis. However, there’s a catch: he needs the approval of Dirty Boxing founder Mike Perry first.
During a recent appearance on the Overdogs Podcast with Perry, Hawes revealed his interest in having Danis in his corner for his June 14th bout against Sasha Platnikov in Miami.
“I’m thinking about bringing Dillon in, but my man Dillon saying, ‘Hey, you guys got some beef. What’s going on?’ I need to know what’s up,” Hawes explained. “So I could bring put him in my corner, figure things out. But if I know you coming at him hot, you know what I’m saying?”
Hawes was clearly concerned about potential conflict, noting Perry‘s status in relation to him:
“You are somewhat my boss as of now. I don’t want to have to be in throwing fist with my boss.”
Perry, known for his willingness to engage in confrontation, seemed open to the idea despite any past issues with Danis.
“Shout out to Dillon Danis. I ain’t got no problem with Dillon and he knows that. But we can have us a scrap,” Perry replied.
The Dirty Boxing founder continued,
“Dillon ‘s been wanting someone to fight him in MMA so he can try to break their foot. I get that. I would have been up for that. It’s just a little bit out of both of our control. It’d be great to have Dillon at the show so he could watch the fighting.”
Perry ultimately gave his blessing for Danis to corner Hawes:
“Bring them on out and let them corner you.”
Hawes, who will compete in the opening bout of the main card on June 14th in Miami, expressed confidence about his matchup against former UFC star Sasha Platnikov. When asked about his opponent, Hawes didn’t mince words:
“Thank Sasha for being stupid enough to accept the fight.”
The former UFC middleweight also made it clear he believes he should be headlining the card instead of heavyweight Rozenstruik:
“Honestly, I don’t know why I’m not the main event. Like, I feel like I should be the main event. I’m bringing the most stature, most clout in the game. Rozenstruik, he’s not that great. He’s not… He’s kind of trash, to be honest.”
