(VIdeo) Brock Lesnar’s debut ended in just over a minute

In a display that would foreshadow his future success, Brock Lesnar made quick work of his first MMA opponent, dispatching him in just 69 seconds.

Before his illustrious UFC career began in 2008, the former WWE superstar stepped into the cage at Hero’s Dynamite!! USA event in Los Angeles in June 2007. Facing South Korean judoka Kim Min-soo in the main event, Lesnar wasted no time showing the world what he was capable of.

Despite Min-soo‘s experience advantage – the Olympic silver medalist had already participated in seven professional MMA bouts – it proved meaningless once the action started. Within the opening ten seconds, Lesnar had secured a takedown, effortlessly passed guard, and unleashed a barrage of punches on his grounded opponent.

The South Korean fighter, clearly overwhelmed by Lesnar‘s ferocity, tapped out due to the ground strikes at the 1:09 mark of the first round – an unusual sight in MMA competition.

“You don’t see a lot of guys tap from ground and pound,” noted commentator Jay Glazer immediately after the bout. “Usually, guys get knocked out or the referee stops it. It shows the brute power of Brock Lesnar.”

This dominant performance caught the eye of UFC President Dana White, who signed Lesnar six months later. Though his UFC debut against Frank Mir ended in a submission loss, Lesnar quickly rebounded to defeat Randy Couture for the heavyweight championship.

Lesnar went on to successfully defend his title twice, beating Mir in a rematch and Shane Carwin, before eventually losing the belt to Cain Velasquez. His MMA career included notable ups and downs, with his final UFC appearance coming against Mark Hunt at UFC 200 in 2016 – a bout later ruled a no-contest.

The former NCAA heavyweight wrestling champion finished his professional MMA career with a record of 5-3-1 NC, but it was that first explosive performance against Min-soo that announced Lesnar‘s arrival as a force in the sport.
