In an interview with Men’s Health, 60-year-old actor Frank Grillo opened up about his use of PEDs to maintain his physique and athletic performance throughout his career. The veteran actor, known for his action roles, revealed he began testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) at age 54 and has experimented with other substances, including Anavar and Peptides.
Grillo’s journey into PEDs began when he noticed a decline in his athletic performance, particularly in boxing, which he’s trained in for years.
“Boxing is about speed and timing, right? And so what started to slip was… I could feel myself not getting to the place I want to get to at the time and distance that I could normally get to it,” he explained. His endurance also suffered, with his ability to complete 10 three-minute rounds becoming compromised.
After experiencing these performance drops, Grillo underwent blood testing that revealed his testosterone levels had plummeted to just 260. His doctor was amazed he could still train at his previous intensity with such low levels, attributing his continued performance to “pure grit and determination.”
The actor began TRT at 54 and has maintained the same prescribed dosage for six years. “I take the same amount of testosterone today as I did… six years ago when he prescribed it to me,” Grillo stated. He emphasized that he’s never exceeded his prescribed dose and has even cycled off the hormone while traveling in Europe.
For his role in “Boss Level,” Grillo added Anavar to his regimen for eight weeks specifically to build lean muscle mass. “I did something else which was the Anavar and the Anavar put on muscle, lean muscle for me,” he revealed. The actor also mentioned using peptides during his 50s as part of his performance enhancement protocol.
Grillo described the benefits of TRT as extending beyond muscle building, noting improvements in recovery time, sleep quality, and mood regulation. “It changed my ability to recover faster. It changed my… sleep. It changed my moods,” he explained, positioning testosterone as a “lifestyle enhancement” rather than merely a muscle-building tool.
Despite the stigma surrounding PED use, Grillo remains unapologetic about his choices, viewing them as necessary tools to maintain his career longevity and physical capabilities. At 60, he continues to lift heavier weights than he did 15 years ago and maintains his boxing training, crediting his pharmaceutical assistance alongside consistent training for his sustained athletic performance.
