18 Year Old Started Balding And Developed A Joe Rogan Like Bubble Gut From ‘A Single Cycle’

An 18 year old bodybuilding influencer named Leo Kallio has become an unlikely case study in how fast PEDs can undo a good physique. What started as a lean, full-headed teenager has turned into a cautionary tale of hair loss and a distended midsection, commonly nicknamed a “bubble gut,” despite his young age.

The transformation is stark. Just five months prior to recent posts, his hairline was intact and his hair had a full, healthy texture. In the time since, his hairline has visibly receded and the remaining hair looks thin and wiry.

Hair loss from anabolic PEDs happen because many of these PEDs convert into DHT, a hormone that shrinks hair follicles in men who are genetically predisposed to balding. For an 18 year old, that process is now compressed into months instead of the decades it might have taken naturally.

The midsection change is just as noticeable. A “bubble gut” is generally understood as a swollen, distended stomach that develops separately from overall body fat, often seen in bodybuilders who use high doses of growth hormone, insulin, and other compounds over long periods.

The prevailing theory is that heavy anabolic use allows lifters to handle weight their core isn’t ready for, weakening the transverse abdominis, the deep muscle layer that functions like an internal corset holding the organs in place. Without dedicated waist and core control training, that muscle stretches out, and the gut pushes forward regardless of how lean the rest of the body appears. Excessive insulin use is also frequently cited as a contributing factor, since it can enlarge internal organs over time.

What makes this case notable isn’t just the physical change, but the age at which it occurred and the volume of PEDs reportedly involved, with more than a dozen different compounds referenced across his own posts in under five months. Rather than slowing down, the response to visible hair loss and abdominal distension has been to continue posting the same content, often encouraging other young men to start using roids as a shortcut to a better physique.

Medical research has also linked liver conditions to visible changes in fingernails, marked by pale, whitened nail beds. While the correlation to heart and liver disease is inconsistent across studies, ranging from single digit percentages to well over half in some samples, it remains a reminder that internal damage from heavy PED use doesn’t always show up where people expect it to.

Joe Rogan has also drawn attention for a similar distended midsection, with bodybuilding commentator Derek From More Plates More Dates arguing that the look could be consistent with what the bodybuilding community calls “GH gut” or “Palumboism.”

Derek linked the appearance to long-term growth hormone use and the insulin resistance that can accompany excessive GH exposure, while also pointing to delayed gastric emptying and impaired intestinal motility as possible contributors to severe abdominal distension.

He stressed, however, that he does not know what Rogan actually uses and was offering an educated assessment based on the physical changes he has observed over the years. He also noted that temporary bloating or simply eating a large meal can produce a similar appearance, making it difficult to determine the cause from appearance alone.
